Solar water heating and roof windows, North Acton

This house in Cloister Road has recently had solar water heating installed.

On the roof there are windows above, and water heating panels below.

Local planning guidelines are that the front elevation of houses must maintain the original roof line, but sloping windows are allowed.

The backs of many houses have loft extensions which jut out from the original roof line.

---------------

Good, helpful comments, showing the definite need to check with local building codes before planning any big project, solar panels on roofs included.

Don't think that you can imitate the person across the street, either. The code may be different for your side of the street, and you could end up in a costly fix. Do your homework before installing any solar panel or other alternative energy upgrades to your home.
